Munster Juvenile Inter-Club Relays
The Munster Juvenile Inter-Club relays took place at Nenagh Indoor Stadium on Sunday January 19. We had 2 relay teams competing at the event. Our U19 Girls team of Aisling Dwyer, Emma Gleeson, Rachel Butler and Katie Bergin won gold in the 4x200m relay in a time of 1.54.73. Well done girls! The U17 Girls 4x200m relay team of Leona Maher, Aoife Dwyer, Tara Gleeson and Louise Hickey were first in their heat and finished 3rd in the final in 2.00.03. They can now look forward to the National Finals in Athlone in April. Congratulations! Well done to both teams and their coach Martin Flynn.
County Novice Road Championships
Sunday next, January 26, the club are hosting the County Novice Road Championships over the usual Burma route. The ladies 3k race gets underway at 12 noon followed immediately by the men’s 6k. The club hope to have both a ladies and men’s team in action and we wish them the very best of luck. The club are looking for help in organising the event and anyone interested please contact any of the committee.
All Ireland Juvenile “B”, Intermediate & Masters Cross Country Championships
The above championships take place on Saturday 8th February in Avondale, Rathdrum, Co. Wicklow. Athletes interested in competing in this event please let Competition Secretary, Geraldine Hickey know as soon as possible.
Club Annual General Meeting
The club held their annual general meeting on Friday last, 17th January. Before a sizeable attendance, everyone heard of the successes of the club in 2019, the many events held and competed in, the increase in club membership and the financial accounts of the club. The main officers for the forthcoming year are: President-John Flynn, Vice-Presidents-Fr. Murphy, Fr. O’Dwyer, Sean Hayden, Tom Flynn, Jimmy O’Meara, Chairperson-Paddy Doyle, Vice-Chairperson-Richard Daly, Secretary-Kate Harrison, Competition Secretary-Geraldine Hickey, Treasurer-Elaine Flynn, Registrar-Sharon Cantwell. PRO’s-Ber Spillane, Joanne Phelan, Eibhlis Purcell, Recorder-Eileen Ryan. Our thanks to all those who supported the club by attending our AGM and we look forward to 2020.
Lotto

Registration for 2020
Sincere thanks to all who have renewed their annual or new membership of the club. Registration forms for 2020 are still available in the club house or can be downloaded from our website, www.moyneathleticclub.com for all those yet to provide membership. Everyone attending training must also be registered for insurance purposes. Completed forms and the appropriate monies should be given to club registrar, Sharon Cantwell, as soon as possible.
Use of Club Facilities
There has been a marked increase in the use of the club facilities over the past few weeks, many from outside of the parish. While we encourage everyone to use the facility, this is a reminder that there is a fee of €2 each time a person uses the track facilities and in addition a €1 fee for the lights. We would ask people to bear this in mind. There is also an option for “Social Member” which is €30 for the year and application forms are available from the clubhouse.
Couch to 5k
The club are encouraging anyone interested in coming to the track on Monday and Wednesday nights at 7.30pm to take part in the Couch to 5k programme. This is a progressive programme, starting at whatever entry level the person feels comfortable at and gradually increasing that level each week to enable them to walk, jog or run 5k. This is a non-competitive programme and will suit everyone. Why not take the first step and come along this week?
