Moyne Athletic Club March 21st 2012
Clubs Challenge: Our annual Track & Field Clubs challenge between Moycarkey Coolcroo AC, Slieveardagh AC and ourselves will take place on Saturday April 21st at 2pm at Moyne Athletic Track. This is a great opportunity for our new athletes to get a taste of competition in preparation for the County Outdoor Track & Field events which will take place on April 29th. The Clubs Challenge is a team event so we encourage all athletes to take part as each athlete’s participation is vital to obtain points for your club. There will be events for U7’s to U17’s so make a date in your diary and come along for what is always a very enjoyable day out for all involved.
County Novice “B” Road Championships: Moyne AC will host the County Novice “B” Road Championships on Sunday April 1st commencing at 12noon. We will have a ladies and men’s teams representing our own Club so we hope to see the locals cheering them on along the route. The ladies will start at the Sportsfield and run to Martin Ryan’s Moynetemple and back to the sportsfield again covering a 3k course. The men will then cover a 6km route around the Burma finishing back at the sportsfield – please come out and show your support for our athletes on the day.
Burma Challenge: The 9th Burma 5K Road Challenge will be taking place again this year starting on Wednesday2nd May @ 7:30pm. Due to the running of the club’s annual Mini Marathon on the June Bank Holiday it will be run over four nights instead of 5 this year. It is open to walkers, joggers & runners, ladies & men over the age of 15. Last year saw 50+ participants taking part all enjoying the fun, the cuppa & chat afterwards. The rules are very simple: on the 1st evening (May 2nd) everybody starts together after which teams will be selected, on the second night (May 9th) everyone is handicapped and we will also see the start of the Family Challenge which is made up of Husband/Wife, Father/Daughter, Mother/Son. With 6 families competing last year once again our winners were Ray & Liz Power who are now going for 4 in a row. On the third evening (May 16th) it’s the round that turns the leader board on its head but is always enjoyed by participant & spectator alike – it’s the Cycle Challenge so dust off the cobwebs, oil the brakes, change two legs for two wheels and enjoy a spin around the Burma. The Final evening (Friday 25th) is back to where you started when all participants will start together. Our Winners last year were Kylemakill and the team members were Mairead O’Dywer (Moyneard), Paddy Doyle (Moyneard), Jim Cummins (Rahaelty), Tom McGrath (Loughmore). The entry fee is €10 for four weeks, which includes a cuppa and a chat whilst also getting in some exercise, so come along and enjoy, support & meet new people and old friends.
