Moyne Athletic Club             March 14th 2012

County U9 – U12 Indoor Championships:  24 of our Juvenile athletes travelled to Nenagh on Saturday last for the County Indoor Track & Field Championships and brought home a total of 15 medals which included one County Title which was won by Niamh Ryan. In the Boys U9 Philip Hayes made it all the way to the 60m Gold Final and just missed out on a medal finishing 4th , Aaron McLaughlin reached the 60m Silver Final finishing 7th.  In Girls U9 Michaela Ely, Louise Hickey and Aine Bowe made it through to the 60m Silver Final with Aine putting in a great performance to finish 1st and Louise also had a great run finishing 3rd. In Girls U10 Rachel Moore reached the 60m Gold Final finishing 6th and Cathy Hogan and Aisling Hickey both reached the Silver 60m final with Cathy taking the title in style. In Girls U11 Ellen Moore and Rachel Butler both reached the 60m Gold Final with Rachel putting in a strong performance to claim 3rd place. In the Girls U12 Niamh Ryan reached the 60m Final and just missed out on a medal when she finished 4th overall, Niamh went on to claim the County Title in the Long Jump, despite not jumping to her full potential she took the title with a jump of 3.51m, she also put in a superb performance in her 600m heat winning the heat comfortably but unfortunately the second heat was six hundredths of a second faster so Niamh just missed out on the county title when she finished 2nd overall taking the silver medal in what was a very close contest – well done Niamh. Ciaran Lloyd claimed 3rd place in the U11 Long Jump recording 3.58m. In the Girls U9 Relays Micheala Ely, Louise Hickey, Aine Bowe and Helen Cleere combined to take 2nd place and claim silver medals and in the U11 Relays Rachel Butler, Ellen Moore, Cathy Hogan and Rachel Moore also took silver medals. All athletes competed in sprint, Long Jump and Relay with the U12 Boys and Girls also taking part in the 600m race. Other athletes to perform admirably on the day were Adam Bulter, Luke Dunne, Jamie Kiely, Dylan McLaughlin, Jack Long, Barry Ryan, Jack Hickey, Jack Cullen, Grace Moore, Laura Daly and Emma Dunphy. Well done to all athletes who competed some of them making their debut at Championship level – you were all winners on the day. A huge thank you also to Paddy, John and Eibhlis – your commitment and support to all athletes is much appreciated.

 

All Ireland Schools Cross Country Championships: Well done to Emma Doyle who finished 38th in the All Ireland Schools CC helping her team at Ursuline Thurles to Bronze Medals and well done also to Ciara Cummins who finished 11th overall in her category.

 

Ballycotton Road Race:  Well done to Esther Hogan and Dermot Campion who both completed the recent 10 mile Road Race in Ballycotton, Co Cork, Esther recording a time of 1.34.52 and Dermot 1.20.45 – well done to you both.

 

Newspaper Tokens:  We are currently collecting Newspaper tokens which are printed daily in the Irish Independent with the aim of getting training kits for the club, we need a total of 250 tokens before we can claim one of these kits and your help in reaching that target would be much appreciated, so if you can get your hands on some of these tokens please do and bring them with you to training each Tuesday and Friday as kits are limited and are been issued on a first come first served basis.

 

Mini Marathon: Our 3rd annual Mini Marathon will take place on Monday, June 4th at 3pm from Moyne Sportsfield, this event is open to both male and female participants. More details of event to follow shortly.

 

Meet & Train Sessions:  Meet and train sessions continue every Wednesday evening at 7.30pm.
