Moyne Athletic Club April 4th 2012
County Novice “B” Road Championships: Our Club hosted the County Novice “B” Road Championships on Sunday last in perfect weather conditions with glorious sunshine the order of the day. First off was the Ladies 3k which saw 18 ladies face the start line, Lisa Quinlan from Moyne led the race all the way to the half way stage closely followed by a Roscrea athlete who took over the lead after the turn around at Ryan’s Moynetemple. The lead was then taken by a Coolquill athlete and at around the 2km stage Lisa had fallen back to 5th position, but Lisa showed her stamina and determination and battled strongly over the last 1k to finish a very deserving 3rd recording a time of 12.12 – well done Lisa. Frances Long was next home for Moyne finishing 7th after putting in a fantastic performance with a time of 13.19, next was Sharon Kiely who in her first year of competition has really come to the fore finishing in 12th place after a great run recording a time of 14.19. Next home was Liz Power who also had a great run finishing 15th in 15.01, Aisling Maher was next also having a fine run finishing 17th in 15.31 and she was closely followed by Rosie Cleere who put in a strong performance finishing 18th in 15.35 and also managed to find her sons soother on the return leg of the race! The girls team combined took the silver team medals – well done girls on great performances all round. The ladies race was followed by the Men’s 6k which started at Frances Cleere’s and saw 48 athletes face the start line, Moyne AC’s Liam Kelly led the way over some of the 6k route and on entering the field for the last 500m Liam was in 4th place – he battled hard over the final lap and finished 5th overall in 21.05 – fantastic run Liam well done. Next home for the Club was Richard Daly who put in a superb performance to finish 22nd in 23.26, JJ Fitzgerald was next home in 42nd in a time of 26.01, Thomas Moore finished 46th in 26.31 closely followed by Ray Power finishing 47th in 26.39 – the men’s team finished 6th overall and what a pity they were without the assistance of the injured Paddy Doyle and also Jodie Sweeney and Declan Leahy due to other commitments – well done to the 5 lads who participated on the day, you all put in fantastic performances. Thanks to all those who helped out on the day – lead car, end car, stewards, those who provided the food, caterers and of course John Flynn for having everything in order for the day.
County Intermediate Road Championships: Dundrum is the venue on Sunday next April 8th for the County Intermediate Road Championships commencing at 1pm. The Ladies race will be run over a 4k route followed by the men’s race which will take and 8k route. Best of luck to all our athletes.
Training: Please note there will be no training on Friday April 6th (Good Friday) or Tuesday April 10th, training will resume for all athletes on Friday April 13th.
Burma Challenge: The 9th annual Burma Challenge will commence on Wednesday May 2nd at 7.30pm and continue for four weeks finishing on Friday May 25th. This is a fun event open to walkers, joggers and runners over the age of 15 for a small fee of €10, so mark the dates in your diary and come along to Moyne sportsfield and join in the fun whilst getting a bit of fresh air and exercise.
Clubs Challenge: Our annual Track & Field Challenge between Moycarkey Coolcroo AC, Slieveardagh AC and Moyne AC will take place at Moyne Sportsfield on Saturday April 21st at 2pm. We encourage all our athletes to participate and there will be events for U7’s to U17’s.
Club Meeting: The next meeting of Club Officers and Committee members has been scheduled for Wednesday April 18th at 8.45pm, your attendance would be much appreciated.
Church Gate Collection: Thanks to all those who supported our Church gate collection at all Masses in Moyne and Templetuohy last weekend – your continued support is much appreciated.
Mini Marathon: Our 3rd annual Mini Marathon will take place on Monday, June 4th at 3pm from Moyne Sportsfield, this event is open to both male and female participants. More details of event to follow shortly.
Meet & Train Sessions: Meet and train sessions continue every Wednesday evening at 7pm for ladies and 7.30pm for men. All are welcome.
