All hands will be required on Sunday morning next, 29th January, when the club will be holding their New Year 5k run over the usual Burma Route. To run a successful and safe event many people are involved from entry personnel, stewards on all cross roads, parking stewards, finishing stewards, kitchen staff, finishing recorders, sound personnel to name just a few. Anyone who has a couple of hours to spare on Sunday and who can assist the club with the running of the event would be very welcome. If interested please give your name to any committee member. The run is around the Burma Road Circuit which is a relatively flat course and is an ideal preparation for those looking at competing in the forthcoming road season or indeed for someone looking to set a personal best time over the 5k distance. However, this should not discourage the fun runner/jogger or walker as everyone is welcome. Entry fee is €10 with prizes for the first three men and ladies and following your exertions over the 5k there will be plenty of refreshments available afterwards.
This is the third year of the event with approximately 200 people taking part over the past two years and hopefully just as many if not more will make their way to Moyne on Sunday. First across the line on those occasions were Tony Reilly, Ballyroan/Abbeyleix and William Maunsell, Clonmel in the Men’s event with Grace McConnell, Ballyroan/Abbeyleix and Sharon Cleere, Gowran the leading ladies.
