3 athletes from the club travelled to Tullamore on Sunday last for the National Juvenile Track & Field Development Event which was formally known as the All Ireland “B” Championships. While our numbers were small the results were huge with All Ireland Gold, Silver and Bronze medals returning to the club.
National Champion in the U/14 Long Jump is Roisin Daly who produced a personal best performance to outjump all other competitors. Facing some very stiff competition she pulled out all the stops to jump 4.34mts to claim the title. What a way to win your first national individual track medal. Roisin has trained hard and competed consistently and this national title is well deserved for such a committed athlete. Well done Roisin.
Niamh Ryan is another very consistent and adaptable performer and Sunday saw her achieve another milestone. As with Roisin above she produced a personal best performance of 4.07mts in the U/13 long jump to finish second overall and claim the silver medal. Showing her versatility she also ran the 600mts and again produced a magnificent performance to win the bronze medal with a time of 1.50. Niamh is again another athlete who has consistently trained and competed well over the years and fully deserved her successes on Sunday. Well done Niamh.
Sean Burke also competed in the U/13 age group, coming up against some very excellent performers and though not amongst the medals produced his usual high class performance. Well done Sean.
