15 athletes travelled to Newmarket-on-Clare on Sunday last for the Munster “B” Cross Country Championships and with very testing underfoot conditions along with a steady drizzle all athletes did the club proud but two outstanding performances from Cora Doyle and Orlaith Maher stood out. Cora competed U/19 and with the underfoot conditions having even further deteriorated following the earlier races she made light of them to finish 2nd overall and win an individual Munster silver medal. Orlaith was our only competitor in the Girls U/13 event and she covered the 2,500mts distance in great style to finish 8th overall and claim an individual Munster bronze medal. Well done to both girls on claiming these individual medals. The day began with Emma Kelly competing in the Girls U/11 event and she was up with the main bunch throughout finishing 29th
overall. Next up were the Boys U/11 with Ciaran Lloyd and Charlie Tobin finishing very strongly in 14th and 16th place
whilst Dylan McLoughlin stayed with the pace to finish 33rd. As already stated above Orlaith Maher competed in the
Girls U/13 event and recorded an excellent 8th place. In the Boys equivalent Nathan Bowe was the leading club man
in 42nd place with Brian Maher finishing 46th and Patrick Campion 55th in a very competitive race. Katie Tobin and
Emma Doyle competed U/15 with Katie steadily picking off opponents to finish 27th while Emma, despite the effects
of the previous day’s County Minor Final victory still in her legs battled bravely for 41st. Our only club team on the
day was in the Boys U/15 event and Harry Hogan with his usual strong running finished an excellent 14th place. He
was closely followed by Eoin Troy with a steady run in 21st with Aidan Ryan just yards behind in 23rd with Eamonn
Troy battling hard for 27th. Our final athlete on the day was Cora Doyle who as already mentioned above ran a
superb race to finish 2nd in the Girls U/19 race. While Tipperary as a County did very well in the Inter-County
competitions with nearly all of the teams getting either gold, silver or bronze medals the composition of these teams
were not available at the time of going to press. The club are hopeful of having members on these various teams
and results will be made available at training and on next week’s notes.
