Club Notes Weekending: 14th May 2023.
Great Success at County Track and Field Championships.
Last weekend many of our juvenile athletes got their outdoor season underway with the County championships taking place at Templemore Athletic Club. There was a large showing of nearly 500 athletes across the two days with U9 – U12 competing on Saturday and the older age groups doing battle on Sunday. Our club had brilliant representation on both days, many athletes coming away with their best ever performances at competition as well as medal winners and newly crowned County Champions. The club had 58 athletes representing themselves and their club over the weekend. It was pleasing to watch them perform to the best of their ability and enjoy themselves both on the track and on the field. There was some fine performance on both days across various disciplines. A total of 40 individual and 8 sets of relay medals made its way back to the club. 19 Gold, 10 silver and 11 bronze to be precise! Contributions came from Faye Murphy’s 14.11m throw in the Turbo Javelin was nearly 4m metres clear of the rest and then followed up with the victory in the 60m. Tom Esmonde responded to every call across all his events in particular the Turbo Javelin (2nd) and a stunning victory in the U9 300m. Aoibheann Doyle showed her class at U9 level being crowned County Champion in the Long Jump and relay, 2nd in the 60m and then showed adaptability when finishing 4th in the 300m. The trio of Lily Murphy, Meadhb Hall and Órlaith Costigan powering down the track to take the podium in the U10 60m final was a delight and then the follow up with an impressive win in the 4×100 relay! Equally the Girls U16 relay team were dominate in the 4×100 and showing promise for the season ahead as they secured qualification for the All Ireland this summer. The clubs dominance over the weekend was evident with the club claiming accolades in all disciplines from sprinting to throws. Long may it continue and grow. The clubs performance over the weekend solidified our capabilities and this is down to the attitude and passion shown by our athletes. We are so proud of all of them and thank them for their commitment. It really was a very enjoyable weekend!! Congratulations all. A special thank you to all the coaches, mentors and of course parents/guardians who all have an important part in the athlete’s development. Below is a summary of the athletes who performed over the weekend in their respective events. The majority of athletes were apart of relay teams which was a lot of fun and concluded a great day.
All roads now lead to the Munster Championships in Castleisland, Kerry in the coming weeks. We cannot wait to see what it brings! Moyne Ac Abú!!
