Meadhbh and Darragh – Regional Community Games

Both Meadhbh Hall and Darragh Maher represented Tipperary as they qualified for the hotly contested Community Games  Regionals on Sunday last. Held in Ennis Track, the pair competed extremely well in stiff competition. Meadhbh won  her semi final in the 60m hurdles and went on to finish 8th in the final on the day. Darragh took to the 200m and finished 2nd in his semi final. He went on to run a very composed race in the final, battling all the way to the line where he finished 7th. Brilliant result for them seeing as they had a long campaign all summer.

Training Has Resumed

Training for all has returned last week, with Tuesdays and Friday’s being the core day for juveniles with a 7:30pm start. We encourage all our athletes to get back to the track if they have not already done so and get the base in ahead of what will be a busy cross country season. As always we welcome new members from 7 years and over, in particular older athletes to join in at training. There will be a number of sessions on offer so please contact the club and speak to one of our coaches to find out more on various training groups. A number of Senior/Master athlete’s are keen to link up for the long run weekly,  so it’s proposed to commence weekly meet ups on Sunday Mornings at 8.30am assembling at the clubhouse and head off on runs to suit your needs. Link in with Sharon for details.

Following last years success we are hosting the open cross country with the kind permission of Jim O’ Meara and the Cantwell family. The course will be slightly amended from last year which will see the return of the original route that was ran back in the NACAI era. Often the scene of thrill and excitement we are hoping for similar and a big turnout from clubs near and far in helping us celebrate this milestone. Prizes are on offer on the day for the athletes. See poster for details. Again, get in touch with club if you require further information.

World Athletics Track and Field Championships

We have a number of club members on route to Budapest to join in the Irish support of our athletes at this top tier championships. We wish them all safe travels and hope they have the best time making memories. The club would like to extend their well wishes and congratulations to our supporter Sharlene Mawdsley (Newport AC) who is having the week of her life already! She was part of the 4x400m mixed relay team who finished 6th in the final last Saturday where she was the key player in ensuring the final qualification. She also earned her stripes by qualifying for the semi final of the 400m as she clocked an incredible PB in her heat on Sunday (less than 12 hours after the relay final). All the best to her!
