What a great night of competition on the club track last Friday night when the clubs of Moycarkey-Coolcroo, Moyglass and Coolquill joined the club in the Inter-Club Track & Field Challenge. It was great to see over 150 young athletes take part in sprinting, middle distance, long jump, turbo javelin and ball-throw as was the support all athletes received from their families. While the event is meant as a fun challenge all athletes put in so much into their performances with some great and exciting competition on the night. The challenge is a club event rather than an individual event and with each of the clubs supplying winners throughout the evening the scoring was very tight throughout. It was only on the final few events that the club moved ahead in the competition for the “John Flynn” Trophy and it was with great excitement that club captain Katie Bergin accepted the cup on behalf of the club team. The club finished on 153points followed by Moycarkey-Coolcroo on 149pts, Moyglass on 130pts and Coolquill on 108pts. With over 30 events on the programme all ran off smoothly and many thanks to everyone who helped out on the night. Thanks also to those who donated confectionary and to the ladies who helped out with the catering. For those young athletes who did not receive their medal on Friday night they will be available for collection at training on Tuesday night.
