North-West Games

The last event of 2023 was the first tract event of the season at the North West Games. A wonderful event that is so beneficial for athletes as they prepare for championships and gain all that important experience. The club had a number of athletes attend The TUS arena in Athlone and they performed markedly well on their first time out. Ber Spillane got off to the best possible start with 2 pbs on the day! To her delight she improved her 60m and 200m (8.83 & 29.19) She won the 60m and was 3rd in the 200m among Senior and Master Athletes. Well done Ber!

We also had our young track athletes out too. In the 60m sprints we had Lily Murphy (U10) won her heat in a swift time of 9.75. Saoirse Joyce (U12) was second in her heat in 9.59 and Faye Murphy (U12) finished third in her heat in 9.27. In the 800m we had MD atletes Caoimhe Slevin (U14) who ran very well in packed field which is a new challenge to Caoimhe. She ran a very good time of 2.52 to finish 4th in her heat! Similarly, Abbie Delaney (U14) ran a good time of 2.58 to finish 7th in her heat. Well done girls. Finally, we had Saoirse in the Long Jump event! She got great practice in and had nice jumps of 3.26 – 2.83 – 3.09 to finish 18th in the event. Well done to all and thanks to coaches and parents for attending.
