12 teams from the club took part in the County Juvenile Cross Country Relays in Thurles with the Girls U/14 team and U/16 Mixed team wining bronze medals while he Girls U/10 and U/12 placed fourth.
Four teams took part in the Girls U/10 race where they were part of a total of 14 relay teams. The team of Alana Spillane, Dearbhla Gleeson, Maeve Leahy and Reiltin Morrissey were just out of the medals in fourth place. Finishing 10th overall was the team of Ruth Phelan, Orla Duggan, Mairead Duggan and Sara McGinley with the team of Mary Kate Ely, Emma Delaney, Ciara Fogarty and Eleanor Doyle just getting in ahead of Ellen Nolan, Laura Fogarty, Ciara Joyce and Isabella Jones for 11th and 12th respectively. We had just one team in the Boys U/10 event – Jack Reddan, Sean Boland, Luke Walsh and Paddy Ely – with the four boys giving it everything they had to finish in 8th place from a total of 11 teams.
The Girls U/12 team of Amy Reddan, Saoirse Doran, Blathnaid Lloyd and Marian Campion along with sub Cara Delaney were unlucky to finish just out of the medals in fourth place. In the Boys U/12 event the team of Cathal Guilfoyle, David Doyle, Adam Spillane-Leane and Adam Phelan came through for fifth place with John Delaney, Fred Power, Frank Doyle and Jimmy Campion finishing 7th just one place ahead of the team of Liam Ryan, Jack Gleeson, Jack Flanagan and Lorcan Burke in 8th.
The Girls U/14 event brought the first set of medals to the club when Louise Hickey, Tara Gleeson, Emma Leahy and Helen Cleere together with sub Aoife Dwyer faced tough opposition but to the credit of all four athletes they battled hard to finish third and win the bronze medals. Well done girls.
The Boys also faced tough opposition with seven teams taking to the start line but Aaron McLoughlin, Aaron Moore, Jake Bowe and Liam Ryan ran their hearts out to finish 5th.
Our second set of medals came via the Mixed U/16 relay where six teams were in action but great credit is due to Dylan McLoughlin, Gavin Ryan, Emma Gleeson and Aisling Dwyer who all put in fantastic performances to finish 3rd and claim the bronze medals. Well done to all four.
Our thanks to all the athletes for their commitment on Sunday and to all the parents and club members for their support and help on the day. As always your help is invaluable.
