19 young athletes from U/9 to U/11 travelled to Templemore on Sunday 1st August for the final County Track & Field Championship of the season and again the club added to their County success when Geoffrey Morrissey and Gerard Delaney came home with gold medals in the U/9 Long Jump (2.98m) and U/11 Turbo Javelin (16.72) respectively, Darragh Maher a silver medal in the U/9 60mts (10.18) and Ella McGinley (U/11 Turbo – 9.34) , Senan Phelan (U/9 300mts (1.00.79) and Long Jump (2.60) and Billy Flanagan (U/11 60mts (9.38) collected bronze medals.  For such a young squad of athletes, many competing in a competition for the very first time, they gave their all and can be rightly proud of their performances.

The sprint events saw heats in all events and several of our athletes qualified to the finals. In the Boys U/9 60mts Geoffrey Morrissey finished 4th (10.30) with Daniel Delaney 6th (10.60).  In the Boys U/11 60mts Gerard Delaney finished 5th (9.53). All the longer races were run as finals with Darragh Maher 6th (1.05.49) in the Boys U/9 300mts, Leo Cullen 7th (1.10.49) and Fionn Phelan 8th (1.11.38).  In the Girls U/10 500mts Caoimhe Doyle finished 7th (1.54.47) and Abbie Manton 12th (2.06.97).  In the Boys equivalent Cathal O’Reilly finished 4th in 1.45.82 while Billy Flanagan finished 10th in the U/11 600mts (2.15.67).  In the Long Jump competitions Zack Ryan finished 4th U/9 (2.56) while Matthew Esmonde finished 5th (2.48), Daniel Delaney 7th (2.37), Fionn Phelan 9th (2.35) and Tom Renehan 10th (2.15).  In the Girls U/10 Niamh Joyce finished 6th (2.60), Caoimhe Doyle 8th (2.52) and Abbie Manton 14th (2.26) with Cathal O’Reilly 6th (2.39) and William Morrissey 12th (2.10) in the Boys equivalent.  At U/11 Helen Renehan finished 10th (2.59), Ellie Costigan 12th (2.49) and Ella McGinley 16th (2.13).  Faye Murphy also took part in the Championships but a heavy fall in the U/11 60mts as she was in contention for a medal put paid to her contribution for the rest of the day.  We wish her a speedy recovery.

Again, well done to all the athletes involved and many thanks to the parents for their support on the day and to all from the club who helped at the event.
