The Club was represented at the County Tipperary Senior & Junior Road Championships in Borrisokane last Sunday by 10 athletes and all gave a splendid performance.
In the Junior Men’s 3,000mts the Troy twins took gold and silver with Eamon taking the honours on this occasion in a time of 11.12, followed by Eoin in a time of 11.22. Well done to both athletes.
Our Ladies were stepping up a grade this time and as usual they did not let the club down. They were led home by Louise Fogarty in 8th place, great running from a novice athlete, in a time of 21.38, followed closely by Lorraine Healy 22.47. Susan Fogarty was 11th in 22.32 to bring the bronze medals to the club, the first set of senior road medals the club has won since the AAI was formed in 2000. In the “B” section, which is for clubs with more than one team, our ladies took gold with Leah Brett finishing in 12th place 24.00, closely followed by Catherine Dunne 13th with a P.B. of 24.15. Ber Spillane improving with every race she runs was 14th with a time of 24.52, followed by Aishling Maher 16th in 25.20. Hard luck to Patricia Ryan who picked up an injury in the race and was unable to finish. This bunch of ladies had a great road season winning County Tipperary medals at all grades during the spring.
