The County Senior Road Championships took place on Sunday in Fethard and the club was well represented in both the ladies and men’s races.  The ladies raced over 5k and despite the top class competition on offer all our members ran well with Bridget Gleeson leading the seven ladies from the club home in an excellent 12th place in 21.42.  Frances Long maintained her form to finish in 18th place in 22.10 with Trish Campion finishing strongly for 21st in 23.09.  These three ladies finished just out of the medals in fourth place in the club competition.  With the club having two teams in action it was left to the “B” squad to medal with Patricia Ryan leading them home in 22nd place in 23.15 followed by Breda McNamara in 28th in 25.17 with Catherine Dunne 29th in 25.28 and these three ladies finished 2nd in the club competition.  Our final finisher was Liz Power in 30th in 25.59.  A huge well done to all the ladies in what was the last road championship race for these ladies.  To medal at all the major road championships this year is some achievement for this group of ladies.

Just three men took to the start of the 10k men’s championship and all did the event in less than 50 minutes which was no mean feat in what was a demanding course with many hills throughout.  Leading the men home was Ray Power who finished in 45th place in a time of 44.19 with Brian Carroll 48th in 45.48 and Mark King 49th in 49.19.  Well done to these three and indeed to all our men over the course of the road championships.
