A haul of 17 County medals from a group of six athletes who took part in the County Senior and Masters Indoor Championships in Nenagh on Sunday was a fantastic return as was the fact that three of them earned the title of County Champion following the day’s competition.  Richard Daly and Seamus Doran had the honour of winning two County titles each while Stephen Flanagan won one with the Men’s Masters Relay team also striking gold.  The rest of the team collected either silver or bronze medals for their great performances.  Two ladies competed in the Senior competition with Susan Fogarty collecting four individual medals – 2nd in the 60mts, 2nd in the Long Jump (3.83), 2nd in the High Jump (1.25) and 3rd in the Shot (7.80).  Also competing extremely well was Ber Spillane who finished 3rd in the 60mts and 4th in the 600mts (2.08).  Our four men competed in the Masters competitions with Richard Daly claiming the gold medals in the O/40 400mts (64.82) and 800mts (2.31) while Seamus Doran was the winner of the O/45 60mts (8.3) and Long Jump.  Stephen Flanagan claimed the O/35 High Jump title (1.55) while also finishing 2nd in the 400mts (59.91) and 800mts (2.22) with Paddy Doyle finishing 2nd in the O/45 400mts (64.01).  The four athletes then combined for the 4 x 200mts relay championship and ran a terrific race to win the gold medals.

This day was a venture into the unknown for most of the athletes as it was their first time competing at this level of track and field but the above results show their diversity at athletics and each one of them is to be commended on their performances.
