Four ladies teams and two mens teams took part in the County Road Relays in Clonoulty on Sunday last. Hosted by Dundrum AC it was a new venture for some of our athletes and to have 24 athletes from the club in action was some achievement and indeed but for the lack of one more person on the day we could have had another four men in action. However, all who participated put in a huge effort and it resulted in all four ladies teams and one of the mens teams getting amongst the medals.
Four different clubs took part in the Ladies event with teams from Dundrum, Thurles Crokes and Clonmel in opposition to the ladies. Over the past couple of seasons these clubs have proved to be the top in the county and it was indeed a privilege to see Moyne get amongst the big three on Sunday. Our “A” team of Orla Healy, Frances Long, Edel Leahy and Bridget Gleeson put in a terrific team performance to finish third overall in a time of 24.38 and claim county bronze medals. The team of Leah McCormack, Caroline Dunne, Patricia Ryan and Lorraine Healy pressed hard and finished first team in the “B” section with a time of 25.59. Finishing second in the “B” section were Katie Tobin, Trish Campion, Sinead Tynan and Liz Power in 28.29 and not far behind were the team of Cora Doyle, Aislng Maher, Leona Doyle and Catherine Dunne who finished third in the “B” section in a time of 28.35. Well done to all the ladies involved.
Again four different clubs took part in the Mens event with the club having two teams in action. Despite putting in a fabulous performance against the more established clubs in the County, the “A” team finished out of the medals in fourth place. Here the team consisted of Eoin Troy, Patrick Bowe, Aidan Ryan and Jody Sweeney and in finishing in 21.22 were not far behind the third placed team. Our “B” team of Eamonn Troy, Ray Power, Mark King and Brian Carroll stuck to their task and their reward was third place in the “B” section in a time of 23.31. Again great credit is due to all the men for their excellent runs.
