Two ladies teams travelled to Clonoulty on Sunday to compete in the County Road Relays hosted by Dundrum AC and both emerged with podium finishes. The relays consist of 2 runs over 800mts, 1 over 1,500mts and one over 3,000mts so to match the athletes to the distances requires knowledge and skill which Coach John Flynn has in abundance and his selections bore fruit on Sunday. The first team of Louise Fogarty (800mts), Brigid Gleeson (1,500mts), Patricia Ryan (800mts) and Susan Fogarty (3,000mts) finished in third place in the A competition behind Dundrum and Clonmel but it was only on the final lap of the 3,000mts leg that Clonmel overhauled the girls to relegate them to third. A great performance all round by this quartet. The second team of Katie Tobin (800mts), Liz Power (1,500mts), Ber Spillane (800mts) and Catherine Dunne (3,000mts) finished very strongly to claim the fourth spot and in the process won the B section for clubs that had more than one team entered. For some of the girls this was their first ever County Gold medal so well done one and all for a very gritty performance.
