The club hosted the County Novice Road Championships for Ladies and Men on Sunday last with 18 athletes from the club competing. Our Ladies once again got amongst the medals finishing second club in the team competition whilst the men though competing well were outside the medals.The ladies race over 3k saw the club field four teams amongst the 40 who started. The first athlete across the line was Bridget Gleeson who finished 5th in 12.37 closely followed by Lorraine Healy in 8th in 12.59 and Frances Long in 11th in 13.09. This trio were the winners of the silver team medals.
Next home was Patricia Ryan in 17th in a time of 13.27 with Cora Doyle, in her first senior competition, finishing 23rd in 13.47 just steps ahead of Trish Campion in 24th who was given the same time. Leah McCormack finished 29th in 14.07 with Caroline Dunne 31st in 14.28 and Aisling Maher 32nd in 14.36. Breda McNamara finished 35th in 15.18 whilst Catherine Dunne finished 36th in 15.31 just ahead of Liz Power 37th in 15.42. The above girls finished in 6th, 9th and 10th in the club competition. Well done to all the ladies on their fine performances.
Just short of 90 men took to the start line for the Men’s 6k with Jody Sweeney in 26th our first athlete home in a time of 22.39. Paddy Doyle finished 34th in 23.15 with Patrick Bowe 57th in 24.22. Next home was Brian Carroll in 69th in a time of 26.08 with Ray Power 73rd in 26.22. Joe Leahy finished 83rd in 27.12 whilst Mark King finished 88th in 29.42. Despite their efforts they were out of the medals in the team competition but well done to all who competed.
