On Sunday the County Tipperary Road Championships began in Moyne with the Novice competition. A crisp spring morning with a light breeze gave ideal running conditions for the athletes.
The 31 ladies were tasked with 3km. We were represented by three ladies in this race. Orla Healy started strong going with the chasing pack from the onset, Orla worked really hard all the way around and closed excellently to take home a silver medal. Next home for Moyne was Angela Fogarty who has made a bright return to racing. Angela showed her strength and experience to finish in 8th position. The next member of the Moyne AC ladies team across the line was Edel Delaney. Edel finished in an excellent 12th position. The ladies ran so well and put themselves in a great position for a team prize. Once the results were tallied it was announced that the ladies had finished in 2nd place with 22 point. An excellent achievement from the ladies team.
Next up was the men’s race with a large field of 59 men. The men had 6km to complete. As the race began a light shower descended over Moyne. Dylan McLaughlin made his senior road debut for Moyne AC, running a well paced race to finish in 8th position in a time of 21.01. Next home for Moyne AC was Patrick Bowe in an impressive 21st position in a time of 22.47. Brian Carroll was the next Moyne AC man around the circuit finishing just behind Patrick in 23rd position in a time of 22.59. Brendan Delaney was the fourth Moyne AC man over the line in 35th position. The lads ran very well and finished 5th team overall.
Next up for our senior road runners is the County Intermediate Road Championship in Galbally next Sunday. Please get your entries into the what’s app group ASAP.
Thanks to all of the volunteers that made today possible. Well done to all of the athletes that took to the roads of Moyne.
