Men’s Novice Team Back Row – Paddy Doyle, Liam Kelly, Brian Carroll Front Row – Stephen Flanagan, Richard Daly
While the Ladies were deservingly getting the accolades, our six men who competed in their 6k race were also putting in a sterling performance. The men’s competitions have always been very competitive and it is hard to break into the top three but the men have been steadily improving and in a field of 62 competitors with eight different clubs on show they mixed it up to finish 5th in the team competition, but only on countback, as both themselves and Coolquill finished on 73pts each. Again considering a couple of years ago the club were unable to field a team this is a great incentive for them and will give them a great boost. Stephen Flanagan has been a revelation for the club over the past year and he again showed his power and ability on Sunday with a great run to finish fifth overall in 20.57. Liam Kelly ran very strongly to finish 10th in 21.30 followed by Richard Daly 21st in 22.10, Brian Carroll 37th in 23.34 and Paddy Doyle 42nd in 24.09 many of them achieving personal bests over the distance. Hard luck on Patrick Bowe who picked up an injury during the race and was unable to finish. We wish him a speedy recovery. Well done to all of the men on their performances and surely success is not too far away for this dedicated bunch of runners.
