The County Masters Road Championships were hosted by Clonmel AC on Sunday with five of our athletes travelling to compete in their respective age categories. Brigid Gleeson secured the first individual road title of the season for the club with a great victory in the O/45 category while Angela Fogarty again filled the runner-up position with a second place in the O/35 category.
Both men and ladies ran 6k in a combined race and despite the fine weather all athletes faced a stiff headwind over the final kilometres which certainly sapped their energies. Leading the club home in an excellent 8th place overall was Stephen Flanagan who was timed at 21.31. Such was the competitive nature of the O/35 category that Stephen was the fifth person in that age group. Brian Carroll was next to finish placing 35th overall in 24.34 and earning a 13th place in the O/35 category. Angela Fogarty was the first of our ladies to cross the finish line in 40th place in a time of 24.51. Angela had a terrific performance to finish third lady home and was compensated for this with the silver medal in the O/35 category. Brigid Gleeson was next to finish in 58th place timed at 26.29 and this huge effort on her behalf saw her claim the County O/45 title. A newcomer to road racing for the club was Edwina Farrell and on her debut finished 93rd overall in a time of 32.59 to finish 9th in the O/40 category. Congratulations Edwina on your first performance for the club and many more to come.
