The County Masters Cross Country took place in Thurles on Sunday 1st November with the club being represented by 8 athletes. The ladies were first away and Brigid Gleeson moved to the head of the field on the first lap, keeping in touch throughout to finish an excellent 5th overall in 16.58. Coming through in 15th was Catherine Dunne who had a personal best over the distance of 18.55 and not alone this but also won the bronze medal in the O/45 category. Well done Catherine. Liz Power ran very solidly to finish 19th in 19.35 and this trio combined to finish 4th in the club section. Five men lined out in the men’s race with Richard Daly leading them home in 20th place in a time of 26.28 and this excellent placing saw Richard capture the bronze medal in the O/40 category – Richard’s first ever individual county medal. Well done Richard. Jody Sweeney coming back to form following a long lay-off finished 30th in 26.58 with Paddy Doyle 31st in 27.29 and Ray Power 54th in 32.48. Patrick Bowe was forced to retire with a hamstring strain and hopefully he will have fully recovered for the Novice “B” on Sunday week in Galbally. Well done to all eight athletes on their performances.
