Our ladies were once again to the fore at the County Masters Cross Country Championships winning 3 individual medals and one team prize. Over 20 athletes faced the starter and included in this were five ladies from the club. As the race unfolded at the front Sharon Kiely and Brigid Gleeson were keeping with the pace while Edel Leahy, Ber Spillane and Catherine Dunne were happy to be amongst the main field.
All the girls maintained their pace and style throughout the race and it was Sharon who led them home in 9th overall to claim 3rd O/35. Just behind her was Brigid who finished 10th and collected the silver medal in the O/45 category followed by Edel Leahy 12th, Ber Spillane 16th and Catherine Dunne 19th who won the bronze medal in the O/45 category. The team of Sharon, Edel and Ber finished 3rd in the team category which resulted in all five ladies taking home medals on the day. Well done all. Paddy Doyle and Patrick Bowe were our representatives in the men’s event with both doing extremely well in a very competitive race where the winner is a current Irish international. Paddy crossed the line in 19th place with Patrick in 23rd. Well done to both athletes.
