With close on 100 athletes taking part in the County Masters Cross Country between men and ladies winning a medal of any colour was always going to be extremely difficult as this must also be one of the most competitive championships in the County.  In the ladies event we had six athletes toe the line.  The race started off at a frantic pace but once things settled down it was Angela Fogarty who took up the mantle for the club, tucking in behind the leading group and maintaining her pace throughout the rest of the race came through to finish 5th overall and in doing so finished 3rd in the O/35 category to win the bronze medal.  Next home for the club was Kate Harrison in 15th just ahead of Sharon Kiely in 16th and these three ladies combined to finish 4th in the team competition.  Catherine Dunne came through for 29th with Liz Power 34th and this place earned Liz a bronze medal in the O/50 category.  Well done to both Angela & Liz on their individual medals.

Well over 60 men took to the start of the Men’s event with the club having four athletes in the mix.  It was Stephen Flanagan who headlined for the club with a terrific performance to finish 5th overall but despite this excellent result he was still to finish 4th in the O/35 category.  Richie Daly sprinted home for 27th with Pakie Bowe following suit in 31st and Ray Power completing the race in 63rd.  Again this event is so competitive and resulted in the club finishing 6th overall in the club competition.

Well done to all the athletes on their performances and keeping the club colours flying high.
