17 of the 29 athletes entered turned up to compete for the club at the County Juvenile “B” Cross Country championships but what a performance from all seventeen with six athletes winning individual medals and two of our three teams also amongst the medals.
Pride of place must go to young Stephen Flanagan who won the Boys U/9 event, following a great battle on the run-in to the finish. Fred Power and Adam Phelan were also very much in contention in this race and finished fourth and fifth respectively which saw the club claiming the team title on 10pts. In the Girls event Alana Spillane gave a great display of running to finish in fourth place and with Dearbhla Gleeson finishing 12th and Sarah McGinley 19th the three girls combined to win the silver medals in the team competition. Anna Daly and Una Duggan competed in a tough U/11 race but both put in sterling performances to finish 8th and 9th respectively and claim individual bronze medals for their efforts.
Also competing very well in the Boys U/9 race were Jack Gleeson who finished 15th, Luke Walsh 19th and Sean Boland 20th to finish 6th team in the club competition. The Boys U/11 team were very unlucky with just two points separating them from the third spot. Liam Ryan just missed out on an individual medal finishing 11th overall with Ethan Walsh in 18th, Cormac Burke 21st and Oisin O’Gorman 30th. Cian Dunne in 13th and Blake Walsh 14th were our competitors in the Boys U/13 event and again in tough competition they performed very well.
Congratulations to all the athletes on your performances and some can now look forward to the Munster “B” championships on 29th November in Cappawhite.
