Dundrum played host to the above championships on Sunday with three athletes representing the club. Aaron Moore and Michael O’Mahony competed in the Junior Men’s 3k race. Racing on the road is certainly quite different from cross country but both athletes adapted to the harder surface with Aaron crossing the line in first place in 9.51 having endured a great battle with Cian Flaherty of Clonmel who was just one second further back. Michael was running very strongly just behind these two athletes and ran a superb race to finish third in 10.09.
It was then the turn of Sharon Cantwell to represent the club in the Senior Ladies 5k and was one of thirty-one athletes competing. Run in conjunction with the men’s race it was a lively start and together with the warm weather conditions it made for a tough time on the road. However, Sharon coped admirably to come home in fifth place in a time of 19.17.
Well done to all three athletes.
