Templemore was the venue on Sunday for the County Junior, Senior and Masters track and field championships with the club being represented by 11 athletes covering all three categories. From the youngest to the oldest in the group each athlete gave their best and it resulted in the club coming home with 26 individual medals and 2 sets of relay medals. Triple gold medallist on the day was Ber Spillane who won the O/35 100mts, 800mts and 3,000mts. Susan Fogarty claimed 5 individual medals – winning the senior High Jump and 1,500mts and finishing second in the 400mts, 3,000mts and Shot. Stephen Flanagan won the O/35 High Jump and Shot, finished 2nd in the 5,000mts and 3rd in the Long Jump. Sinead McLoughlin was crowned County Champion in the O/40 100mts and 800mts with Aisling Maher finishing 2nd in both the senior 100mts and 1,500mts and third in both the 400mts and Long Jump. Liam Kelly competed in the senior 400mts and 5,000mts and secured two silver medals for his efforts while Brian Carroll collected two bronze medals in the 0/35 800mts and 5,000mts. Harry Hogan competed in the junior 3,000mts and finished 2nd overall while Lorraine Healy ran in the senior 800mts and finished 3rd overall. Paddy Doyle and Eibhlis Purcell completed the squad with victory in the O/40 and O/50 shot respectively. When it came to the relays the club entered a 4 x 100 ladies team and a 4 x 400 men’s team and both secured victory. The ladies team was Sinead, Susan, Ber and Aisling while Stephen, Liam, Harry and Brian represented the men. Well done to each and every one of the athletes for their participation. While some might say that the numbers competing on the day were small it should in no way take away from the efforts of those that did compete, medals have to be competed for and each of the club athletes should be very proud of their achievements.
