Fair play to the 9 athletes – seven ladies and two men – who took part in the County Intermediate Cross Country Championships in Galbally on Sunday as they battled through the mud to once again feature on the winners podium.  Our two men Stephen Flanagan and Jody Sweeney were up against it in a strong men’s competition but finishing 11th and 20th respectively both did themselves justice and did not appear too shattered after the event.  All great training for the Novice “B”.  Our ladies have been the standard bearers for the club over the past couple of years and Sunday was no exception.  Angela Fogarty and Orla Healy were part of the breakaway group at the start of the race.  Both battled through and at various times were dropped but re-joined the leaders with Angela taking the lead at one stage and driving the race on.  Eventually the heavy going played its part and despite their best efforts both drifted back but battled hard to finish an excellent 4th and 5th respectively.  Sharon Cantwell made up great ground throughout the race to finish 16th with Kate Harrison coming through for 18th and Ber Spillane 19th.  Susan Fogarty and Catherine Dunne finished 23rd and 26th respectively to complete the club members.  Angela, Orla and Sharon were winners of the bronze medals in the team competition just two points from silver to gain yet another podium finish for the club.  Well done to all nine athletes on their performances.
