National Juvenile Even Age Cross Country Championships
The first of the two juvenile national cross-country championships were held in Rosapenna, Co. Donegal on the weekend of 21st November with three athletes from the club representing Tipperary at U16 and U18 level. Despite the long journey north, all three gave it their all-in search of glory and provided great backup for their respective Tipperary teams.
First into action was Adam Phelan who took on the best in Ireland at U16 level. Running an excellent race, he crossed the line in 127th place to help secure eighth place for Tipperary in the Inter-County Championship. The U18 & U20 races were run as one, with the winners qualifying for the European Cross-Country championships. With national stars Nicholas Griggs and Dean Casey setting an extremely fast pace from the start the field was quickly strung out but our two athletes Michael O’Mahony and Aaron Moore settled into the middle of the large field of runners. Each athlete was running to their best and as the laps went by, they stuck with the pace and finished 48th and 73rd respectively. Unfortunately for the boys, Tipperary did not have the full compliment of athletes finish to earn a spot in the Inter-County competition. Well done to all three for their performances on the national stage and thanks to the parents and club members who travelled to Donegal to support the athletes. The setting and organization were top class and well done to Cranford AC for staging such a huge championship.
Track & Field Live
Two club athletes travelled to the Athlone IT indoor area for the first of the Track & Field live series of indoor meets. Competing in the 60mts Katie Bergin came home in first place with a time of 7.78 secs while Sharon Cantwell finished 5th in the Ladies Mile race with none other than Jodie McCann as a competitor. Well done girls.
National Uneven Age Juvenile Cross Country Championships
Just one athlete from the club, Jack Renehan, has qualified for the National Uneven Age Juvenile Cross Country Championships to be held in Conna, Co. Cork on Sunday next. All the club wish Jack the best of luck.
Club Meeting
The next meeting of the club is scheduled for this Wednesday evening, November 30th at 8.30pm in the clubhouse. All committee members are asked to attend.
