County Novice Road Championships
The club hosted the County Novice Road Championships on Sunday with 4 ladies and 8 men donning the green and gold singlets. The ladies were first away and in just over 10 mins the first of the ladies arrived back on the track. Just yards behind was Sharon Cantwell who ran a terrific race to finish third overall in a time of 11.27. Angela Fogarty stormed through to take fifth in 11.38 with Kate Harrison in thirteenth in 12.33 and Edel Delaney eighteenth in 13.26. The ladies, having grouped well together, won the team silver medals. Well done all. Our men have taken a back seat to the ladies for a while now but the number of entries on Sunday was great to see and while no silverware came their way all ran extremely well and are still eligible to compete in the Novice B Road in April. First home for the club was Padraig Crone in 18th in 22.13 followed by Pakie Bowe and Michael Bergin 23rd and 24th timed at 22.52 and 22.53 respectively. Nathan Bowe came through to take 32nd in 23.23 with Jody Sweeney 37th in 23.38, John Renehan 47th 24.35, Brendan Delaney 54th 25.49 and Tom Nolan 62nd 30.13. Well done to all athletes and keep up the momentum.
We were blessed to have great help on Sunday, and this showed throughout the day with the success of the Championships. Thanks to everyone who helped in any way with this success.
Irish Life Health National Junior & U/23 Indoor Championships
Katie Bergin and Jack Hickey competed in the National Indoors in Athlone on Saturday January 25. Katie ran in the Junior Women’s 200m where she finished 3rd in her heat with a pb of 27.33 while Jack ran in the Junior Men’s 400m where he also finished 3rd in his heat with a pb of 53.72. Well done to Katie and Jack as they were competing with some of the best athletes in the country.
County Road Relays
Clonoulty is the venue on Sunday next for the County Road Relays. The distances for both races are 800mts x 1,500mts x 800mts x 3,000mts and with the successful turn out of 12 athletes at the County Novice last Sunday we can only hope that these athletes will once again make themselves available for this competition. The event gets underway at 12 noon with the ladies’ relay followed immediately by the men.

Couch to 5k
The club are encouraging anyone interested in coming to the track on Monday and Wednesday nights at 7.30pm to take part in the Couch to 5k programme. This is a progressive programme, starting at whatever entry level the person feels comfortable at and gradually increasing that level each week to enable them to walk, jog or run 5k. This is a non-competitive programme and will suit everyone. Why not take the first step and come along this week?
