Munster U/9 – U/11 Indoor Track & Field Championships
These Championships took place in Nenagh Indoor Stadium on Saturday February 15th. There were 20 athletes representing the club on the day where the competition in Munster was very strong. Despite this, Maria Doyle managed to win a bronze medal in the U11 Shot Put and Aaron McLaughlin won silver in the U16 1.5k Walk. Also, Niamh Gleeson qualified for the U11 60m Girls semi-final but unfortunately didn’t make the final. The following athletes put in great performances and although they didn’t make the podium, they did themselves proud – Abbie Manton, Faye Murphy, Cathleen Cussen, Saoirse Dunne, Conor Leahy, Gerard Delaney, Ellen Harrington, Isabelle Murphy, Kate Concagh, Molly Jones, Ailis Concagh, Ciara Joyce, Heidi Maher, Olive Spillane Leane, Daithí Cussen, Jack Guilfoyle and Noah Murphy. For many of these athletes, it was their first time to compete in the Munster indoors and it probably will be the start of many for some!
Munster Senior & Masters Indoor Track & Field Championships
Sunday February 16th was turn of our senior and master athletes to don the Moyne AC singlet and compete with the best in Munster in Nenagh. There were 12 athletes representing the club and they managed to bring home 3 gold, 6 silver, 4 bronze medals and 2 sets of relay medals. Pride of place must go to our senior ladies’ relay team of Aisling Dwyer, Rachel Butler, Katie Bergin and Leona Maher who ran their socks off to claim gold in the 4x200m in a time of 1.53.30 which is a new club record! Also, Naomi Morrissey was 1st in the W40 Shot Put with a pb of 7.03m and she was 1st in Weight for Distance with 5.33m. Ned Dwyer also came home with a gold medal in the Mens M55 Weight for Distance with a throw of 6.53m. He was 2nd in the Shot Put with 8.36m.
In the senior women category, Sharon Cantwell was in action in the 3,000m which was held on the previous day where she finished 3rd in 12.09.72. She ran in the 1,500m, the next day, where she finished 2nd in 5.22.81. Katie Bergin was joint 3rd in the 200m in 27.36 and 4th in the 60m in 8.39. Aisling Dwyer ran a pb in the 200m of 28.09 and she was 7th in the 60m in 8.56. Leona Maher was 10th in the 200m in 29.03. Aisling Maher was in action in the 400m where she finished 3rd in 1.13.81. In the Masters’ category, Ber Spillane was 2nd in the W35 400m in 1.09.76, 2nd in the 60m in 9.28 and 3rd in the 200m in 31.04. Brigid Gleeson ran in the W45 800m where she was 4th in 2.54.23. Sinéad Tynan was 2nd in the W45 400m in 1.15.77 and in the High Jump (1.30m). Ber, Brigid, Sinéad and Edel Delaney ran in the 4x200m relay where they finished 2nd in 2.14.51. Well done to all the athletes involved and many thanks to those who travelled to support and cheer on the athletes.
Munster U/12 to U/19 Indoor Track & Field Championships
Competition is coming thick and fast with the U/12 to U/19 Munster Indoor Championships taking place this coming weekend 22/23 February. Registration for 2020
All athletes and committee members who have yet to register with the club for 2020 are kindly asked to do so within the next couple of weeks. Registration form and fee should be given to club registrar Sharon Cantwell at any of the club training sessions.
Couch to 5k
This event is going from strength to strength with all those taking part enjoying the benefits of running and walking. Feel free to come to the track on Monday and Wednesday nights at 7.30pm to take part in this progressive programme. This is a non-competitive and will suit everyone.

For each purchase the club receives a percentage of the sale back at the end of the year. Training Courses
The club is always looking for parents or indeed senior athletes to get involved in coaching. The following courses are now on offer from Athletics Ireland and will be run in Clonmel – 21st March – Assistant Coach and 28th March – Athletics Leader. These are one day courses and are a great way to get an introduction to the basic skills of athletics. Entry is on-line at Athletics Ireland. Please consider doing one of these courses and help in the club.
