National Uneven Age Juvenile and Novice Cross-Country Championships
On a great day of athletics, our four club athletes, gave it their all at the National Uneven Age Juvenile and Novice Cross Country Championships held in Dunboyne, Co. Meath. First away on the day was Alana Spillane, representing the province of Munster in the Girls U/13 event. She was very much one of the younger competitors in this race but that did not deter her when finishing 107th. In the Boys equivalent Adam Spillane toed the line for Tipperary and despite being on his sick bed for the past week ran his heart out to finish 120th and the final scorer on the Tipperary team that finished a very creditable 6th in the Inter-County competition. Our final juvenile was Aaron Moore who competed in the Boys U/15 event for both Munster and Tipperary and again, having overcome illness, left nothing on the field to finish 44th. This place proved vital as it contributed to Tipperary finishing third in the Inter-County competition, only losing out to Dublin on count-back as both Counties finished level on points. Well done Aaron on your coveted All Ireland medal and to both Alana and Adam on your performances.
With over 180 athletes entered in the Ladies Novice, the race was always going to be tough and the pace fast but great credit is due to Angela Fogarty who put everything into her performance. On a course that provided a mixture of soft and muddy underfoot conditions she battled hard and maintained her speed throughout to finish in the top half of the field while also showed true grit at the finish holding off some serious challenges to her position. Well done Angela.
Sincere thanks to the Spillane, Phelan, Moore and Fogarty clans for their support on Sunday and indeed throughout the cross-country season.
