County Juvenile “B” and Novice “B” Cross Country Championships
Competing on home ground and on certainly the best cross-country course of the season with such great underfoot conditions certainly suited our club athletes as they all gave a great exhibition of running in the various age groups and distances.
Annie Ely, Matthew Esmonde, Caoimhe Slevin and Aisling O’Reilly all won their respective events at U/9, U/11, U/13 and U/15 while Noah Murphy U/13 and Emma Delaney U/15 won silver with Darragh Maher (U/11), Robyn Upsdell (U/9), Owen Meade (U/9), Saoirse Joyce (U/11), Bill O’Neill (U/11) and Senan Phelan (U/11) all collecting bronze medals. The club had further remarkable success in the team events with Matthew Esmonde, Darragh Maher and Bill O’Neill winning the Boys U/11 competition, Caoimhe Slevin, Muireann Casey and Amber Doherty the Girls U/13 title, Noah Murphy, Jack Renehan and Gerard Delaney the Boys U/13 championship and Aisling O’Reilly, Emma Delaney and Kate Delaney winning the Girls U/15 title.
Also in great running form were Abbie Manton (15th), Poppy Lyons (21st), Doireann Quinlan (25th), Amy Hackett (29th) and Faye Murphy (33rd) in the Girls U/11 event where the two teams finished 5th and 10th respectively. Running equally as well were Geoffrey Morrissey (13th), Tom Renehan (16th), Cian Kelly (18th), Daniel Delaney (27th) and William Morrissey (30th) in the Boys U/11 to see two further teams finish fourth and sixth, respectively. At U/13 level Helen Renehan (14th), David Nolan (10th) and Michael Doyle (12th) completed our core of athletes running on the day and again ran very solid races.
Congratulations to all our athletes, you are what makes the club, and it was great to see the green and gold singlets very much to the fore on the day.
A sincere thank you to the Daly Family for the use of their land. They have never failed to support the club and had the course in top class condition. It was certainly the best course that athletes have competed on this season. Our thanks to the parents for their continued support and to all those who helped in any way on the day and indeed the days beforehand to ensure that everything went smoothly with the event.
National Juvenile Even Age Cross Country Championships
On Sunday next, three of our athletes will represent Tipperary at the National Juvenile Even Age Cross Country Championships in Donegal. Adam Phelan (U/16), Aaron Moore (U/18) and Michael O’Mahony (U/18) will make the long journey to Rosapenna Golf Course in Downing’s to take part in this national event as they compete with the cream of Irish juvenile athletes following their qualification through the Munster championships. We wish all three the best of luck.
