County Intermediate Cross-Country Championships

1 lady and 2 men were the club’s representatives at the County Intermediate Cross-Country Championships in Moyglass on Sunday.  Lorraine Healy competed in the ladies’ event and throughout a tough race kept ahead of the field with the company of Karen Coughlan of Dundrum. It was only on the last climb that Karen broke Lorraine’s resistance and opened a gap that despite her best efforts Lorraine could not close and she crossed the line in a very clear second place.  Well done Lorraine on your huge effort.

Michael Egan on his first start for the club and indeed his first effort at a County Championship ran a very solid race in the men’s equivalent to finish 28th with Brendan Delaney not far behind him in 29th.  Whilst the course was sound underfoot the hills and dips more than sapped the energy so well done to both men on their efforts.

County Un-Even Age Juvenile Championships

The second outing of the cross-country season was to Moyglass on Sunday October 13th where we had 47 athletes competing in sunny and dry conditions.  Another great day of running saw the club take home 6 individual medals and 3 sets of team medals – 2 silver and 1 bronze!

There were two girls competing for the club in the U15 age category.  Aisling O’ Loughlin and Moya Brennan ran a distance of 3,500m and finished 7 and 10 respectively.  There were 4 club athletes running in the Boys U15 with Aaron Moore leading them home in 3.  Michéal O’ Mahony finished 9, David Doyle 11 and Jake Bowe 12.  The boys won a silver medal in the team event.

Nathan Bowe was our sole competitor in the Junior Men 5,000m race. He had a strong and steady run where he finished 10.

Well done to every one of our athletes who ran today. They put in a huge effort and did themselves proud!
