County Senior Cross-Country Championships

The Tipperary Senior Cross-Country Championships took place in Galbally on Sunday last, hosted by Moreabbey Milers AC.  The wet, muddy and uneven underfoot surface certainly tested the mettle of all athletes and it was mind over matter as they all battled through the conditions.  Great credit is due to our four athletes who took part with our ladies’ team, following their tremendous performances, taking third team in the club competition.  Angela Fogarty was the first across the line in 6th place, followed by Sharon Cantwell in 11th and Kate Harrison 14th.  Great result girls and great commitment from you all over the 6k distance.  It is always much harder when you are on your own but great credit is due to Brian Carroll, our lone male athlete who also battled hard in the Men’s 10k and despite the conditions came through to finish 29th. Well done Brian.  Thanks to everyone who travelled to support the athletes in Galbally.

Club Annual General Meeting

The annual general meeting of the club will take place this Friday night, January 17.  The meeting will commence at 8pm sharp and all members are invited to attend.  This is the one meeting where all members can have an input into the Club, and we encourage as many as possible to attend to show your support for the hard-working officers and committee currently in place.  The club competed in over 50 competitions in 2019 alone as well as organising club and county competitions and not forgetting the huge voluntary effort in training our athletes each week.  Athletics is a year-round activity and with competitions on nearly every weekend, whether near or far, the club encourages participation, but to keep up this commitment it takes a lot of hard work. Please support this effort on Friday night.

Munster Juvenile Inter-Club Relays

Sunday next, January 19, sees the staging of the Munster Juvenile Inter-Club Relay Championships in the Nenagh AC Indoor Arena with the club having two teams competing.  We wish the very best of luck to the Girls U/19 4 x 200mts team of Aisling Dwyer, Rachel Butler, Katie Bergin, Emma Gleeson and Jessie Newman and the Girls U/16 4 x 200mts team of Leona Maher, Aoife Dwyer, Louise Hickey and Tara Gleeson.

Registration for 2020

Sincere thanks to all who have renewed their annual or new membership of the club.    Registration forms for 2020 are still available in the club house or can be downloaded from our website, www.moyneathleticclub.com for all those yet to provide membership.  Everyone attending training must also be registered for insurance purposes.   Completed forms and the appropriate monies should be given to club registrar, Sharon Cantwell, by this coming Friday, January 17.

Use of Club Facilities

There has been a marked increase in the use of the club facilities over the past few weeks, many from outside of the parish.  While we encourage everyone to use the facility, this is a reminder that there is a fee of €2 each time a person uses the track facilities and in addition a €1 fee for the lights.  We would ask people to bear this in mind.  There is also an option for “Social Member” which is €30 for the year and application forms are available from the clubhouse.

Dancing with the Stars

We encourage all club members to support Aidan “Taggy” Fogarty from Urlingford who is participating in “Dancing with the Stars” on RTE.  Aidan is a brother of club member Angela and we wish him all the very best in his quest.  Aidan and dance partner Emily are putting in the hard work and believe me there is endless hours of it to entertain us on Sunday nights. To support:  Text: Aidan to 53125.  The very best of luck Aidan and Emily.

Couch to 5k

The club are encouraging anyone interested in coming to the track on Monday and Wednesday nights at 7.30pm to take part in the Couch to 5k programme.  This is a progressive programme, starting at whatever entry level the person feels comfortable at and gradually increasing that level each week to enable them to walk, jog or run 5k.  This is a non-competitive programme and will suit everyone.  Why not take the first step and come along this week?

Training

There will be no juvenile training this Friday night due to the staging of the club annual general meeting.  Normal juvenile training resumes the following week – Tuesday and Friday nights from 7.30pm to 8.30pm. Training for sprints and jumps, for juvenile athletes who are committed to taking part in the track and field championships, takes place each Thursday night at 7.30pm and we look forward to seeing those athletes at these sessions.
