Munster Un-Even Age Juvenile & Senior Cross-Country Championships
The club headed to Limerick Racecourse on Sunday for the Munster Un-Even Age Juvenile and Senior Cross-Country Championships. The day held up very well for the running of the event with just a couple of short showers and all our athletes performed to the best of their abilities in the exceptionally soft underfoot conditions. Our lone medalist on the day was Sharon Cantwell who had an extraordinarily strong race in the Senior Ladies 6k to finish eighth overall and second Tipperary athlete across the line. This great result in addition to that of the other three Tipperary athletes that made up the team on the day saw Sharon win her first Munster senior cross-country medal as the County came third in the Inter-County competition. Well done, Sharon.
The day began with the Girls U/9 race and amongst the field of over one hundred athletes it was Annie Ely in 36th who led the team home. She was followed by Lily Murphy in 50th with Meadhb Hall 55th and Robyn Upsdell 93rd to finish 10th club on the day. Annie, Lily and Meadhb were also scoring members of the Tipperary team that finished sixth. Faye Murphy was our lone representative in the Girls U/11 event and in a huge field finished 149th. Our biggest club representatives on the day were in the Boys U/11 race where seven athletes were amongst yet another huge field of athletes. Darragh Maher led them home in 42nd place with Matthew Esmonde just four places further back in 46th. Senan Phelan came home in 72nd, Cathal O’Reilly 99th, Bill O’Neill 103rd, Danann Sweeney 120th and Cian Kelly 129th. The Boys combined to finish 11th club with Darragh on the Tipperary team that finished sixth overall. In the U/13 Girls event Caoimhe Slevin came home in 108th while Jack Renehan 64th, Noah Murphy 98th and David Nolan 106th all competed in the U/13 Boys event. At U/15 level Aisling O’Reilly battled hard for 37th as did both Emma and Kate Delaney as they finished 40th and 56th respectively with all three girls on the Tipperary team that finished in fourth place. Our final juvenile to compete was Adam Phelan who ran in the Boys U/17 race to finish 44th. In the Senior Ladies race, in addition to Sharon mentioned above, we also had Lisa Quinlan taking part and she battled hard for 20th place. Our thanks once again to all the families and club members for their support on the day.
