County Juvenile Cross Country Relays

The County Juvenile Relay Championships took place in Thurles Crokes on Sunday November 3rd. After very wet conditions prior to the event, the ground was quite sticky in places. Thankfully, the rain stayed away for the juvenile races!

We had four U10 Girls teams competing in the relays with each team member running a 500m leg. Róisín O’ Reilly, Ciara Joyce, Saoirse Deegan and Ruth Lyng just finished outside the medals in fourth followed closely by the team of Maria Doyle, Gráinne Daly, Olive Spillane Leane and Niamh Gleeson in fifth. In sixth place was Molly Jones, Emily Cahill, Arlene Flanagan, Ailis Concagh with the team of Ruby Russell, Kate Concagh, Ciara O’ Dwyer and Ellen Harrington in 11.

Next out on the course were our two U10 Boys teams. The team of Jack Guilfoyle, David Nolan, Billy Flanagan and Aiden Evans also finished outside the medals in fourth and in ninth position were Noah Murphy, Michael Doyle, Killian Russell and Páudie Guilfoyle.

In the U12 Girls relay, we had two teams running – the team of Alana Spillane, Eleanor Doyle, Ruth Phelan and Aisling O’ Reilly were fifth with Dearbhla Gleeson, Reiltín Morrissey, Emma Delaney and Kate Delaney finishing in tenth place.

Jack Cahill, Shane O’ Dwyer, Rógan Lyons and Bill Cussen flew the flag for the U12 Boys where they finished seventh overall.

The penultimate race saw the U14 Boys out on the circuit.  Adam Phelan, David Doyle, Jack Flanagan and Jack Gleeson won the first medals of the day finishing third with the team of Adam Spillane Leane, Frank Doyle, Cathal O’ Dwyer and Paddy Cussen finishing fourth.

The final race of the championships was the mixed U16 relay. Mary Cussen, Louise Hickey, Jake Bowe and Michéal O’ Mahoney won bronze medals for their efforts.

Well done to each athlete for running their best and representing the club so proudly.

County Masters Cross Country Championships

Thurles Crokes hosted the County Masters Cross Country Championships. The conditions were wet and sticky on this flat course. The ladies were first out running 4k where a well-timed shower of rain welcomed them to the start line! But it did little to deter the efforts of our 3 club athletes. Edel Delaney battled on to hold her position throughout the race and finished 17. Michelle Percy ran strongly to finish 23 and Ber Spillane ran a steady race to finish 31.

Last out on the course was the turn of the men. The rain fell heavily throughout their 7k race making conditions tough. Stephen Flanagan was the first athlete home for the club in eight. Micheál Bergin finished 27, Patrick Bowe 34 and Brendan Delaney 43. Well done to all the athletes who ran and many thanks to Thurles Crokes for hosting the Championships.

Munster Un-Even Age & Senior Cross-Country Championships

Conna in Co. Cork is the venue on Sunday next for the Munster Un-Even Age Juvenile and Senior Cross-Country Championships with an 11.30am start. While it is a big step up in competition for athletes it is also the last chance for our juvenile athletes to compete at this level and with entries closing on Tuesday night names must be with Geraldine by Monday night at the latest. All athletes competing on Sunday and who competed in Limerick a couple of weeks ago will be eligible to compete in the Munster “B” Championships in Two-Mile-Borris later in the season provided they do or did not win an “A” medal.
