County Road Relays

The County Road Relays took place in Clonoulty GAA Grounds on Sunday February 2nd. Despite quite wet conditions during the warm-up, it cleared up for the race itself.  Moyne AC had one ladies team competing in the relay.  They were Brigid Gleeson, Aisling Maher, Ber Spillane and Sharon Cantwell.

The first leg of the relay was an 800m dash starting from outside the GAA grounds and finishing within the grounds where the remaining legs of the relay took place.  Brigid Gleeson ran this fast leg where she put Moyne in an excellent 2nd position for the next leg, of 1,500m, which was run by Aisling Maher.  Aisling tackled the hill on the far side of the grounds with great strength with Mooreabbey Milers close behind.  Mooreabbey went into 2nd position during the first lap but there wasn’t much between the two athletes by the 3rd exchange.  Ber Spillane ran the 3rd leg of 800m and gained momentum on the hill and took 2nd position going into the downhill section of the course.  Sharon Cantwell ran the final leg of the relay, which was 3,000m, where she kept Moyne in silver position with her steady paced run.  The team ran the 6,100m in 24.07. Well done to the four athletes! A great days’ running by you all.
