National Senior Indoor Track & Field Championships
The cream of Irish Track & Field Athletics, including the likes of Phil Healy, Molly Scott, Ciara Neville, John Travers and Mark English to mention a few, were in the National Athletics Centre in Abbotstown on Saturday and Sunday last for the finals of the National Senior Indoor Track & Field Championships. Taking their place amongst this elite band of athletes was our 4 x 200mts relay team of Leona Maher, Emma Gleeson, Rachel Butler and Katie Bergin. The girls competed in the penultimate championship race on Sunday and what a performance they produced. With just an average age of 16, they gave away many years to their competitors. One could not fault them for being nervous, running against such exalted company, but they all gave a super display of running to finish in fourth in a new club record time of 1.52.52. What more could you ask for. This experience is invaluable in the formation of this team and the confidence gained will certainly stand them in good staid when their U/19 Relay Championships take place in April in Athlone. Well done girls. Thanks to all the parents and supporters on the day which was very much appreciated by all four girls.

The following members of the club will be competing and we wish them the very best of luck – Naomi Morrissey (SP & WFD), Sinead Tynan (200mts, 400mts, HJ), Ber Spillane (60mts, 200mts, 400mts), Ned Dwyer (SP, WFD), Ray Power (60mts, 200mts, 400mts), Relay (Ber Spillane, Sinead Tynan, Edel Delaney Elaine Smith).
Munster Schools Indoor Games
Several juvenile members of the club will be taking part in the Munster Schools Indoor Games in Nenagh on Tuesday, March 3. We wish all the very best of luck.
County U/9 to Junior Indoor Track & Field Championships
These championships take place on Sunday March 15 starting at 10am. Entries can be given to Geraldine up to Friday March 6. All athletes are asked to ensure they are available for this event prior to entry. The Championships are a great introduction to indoor running and jumping and a great atmosphere prevails on the day, so we are encouraging all athletes who are attending training to take part. The club will also be forming relay teams in the next week, so anyone interested in being part of a team should attend training. Again, it is the responsibility of parents/guardians to ensure that entries have been given to Geraldine.
An EGM of the club will take place this Wednesday night, March 4, at 8.30pm. All committee and members are asked to attend.
The club are hosting a workshop on behalf of Athletics Ireland covering sports nutrition for the athlete which includes nutrition basics (hydration, protein needs, nutrient requirements), sports nutrition (pre/during/post training/athlete needs/RED-S female athlete triad), meal prepping and planning, supplements/ergogenic aids and Q&A session.
This is taking place on Saturday 14th March at 5.30pm in the club meeting room and the duration is 2.5-3 hours long. The tutor is Evan Lynch, Dietitian & Sports Nutritionist and is open to all aged 16 years and older. A few places will be made available through AAI and details will be posted on their website in the coming days so anyone interested will need to book directly on-line.
Couch to 5k
This event is going from strength to strength with all those taking part enjoying the benefits of running and walking. Feel free to come to the track on Monday and Wednesday nights at 7.30pm to take part in this progressive programme. This is a non-competitive and will suit everyone.
Moyne AC Club Shop
Our Club Shop is now available on the O’Neill’s website. This will now let members purchase club gear when they want to. Club singlets are available for purchase by individuals and we encourage as many athletes as possible to purchase same. The link to the on line shop is – https://www.oneills.com/shop-by-team/athletics/moyne-ac.html…
The club is always looking for parents or indeed senior athletes to get involved in coaching. The following courses are now on offer from Athletics Ireland and will be run in Clonmel – 21st March – Assistant Coach and 28th March – Athletics Leader. These are one day courses and are a great way to get an introduction to the basic skills of athletics. Entry is on-line at Athletics Ireland. Please consider doing one of these courses and help in the club.
2020 Summer Games
Wednesday 17th June has been confirmed as the date for the third running of our track and field games. The programme remains the same as last year apart from including a Ladies WFD instead of the Junior Men LJ. This event was very well supported last year and due to this it has been decided to include it this year.
This year the club have decided only to run a 5k event on the June Bank Holiday Monday instead of our normal Mini Marathon. While this is a change in distance, it is generally felt that many people prefer the shorter race and it is also an achievable aim for anyone starting out jogging/running. More details to follow.
