The Annual Burma 5km Road Challenge is celebrating its 10th Birthday this year and we are looking forward to it being bigger and better than before. So dust off your trainers, oil your bicycle and come along to have fun while getting some exercise and meeting new people and old friends.
The Burma Challenge will take place on 5 consecutive Wednesday evenings starting on April 24th. It is open to walkers, joggers and runners, ladies and men over the age of 15.
The rules are very simple: on the 1st night (April 24th) everybody starts off together after which teams will be selected. On the second night (May 1st) everyone is handicapped and we will also see the start of the Family Challenge which is made up of husband/wife, father/daughter, mother/son. With 9 families competing last year, the couple to beat are Ray and Liz Power our winners for the past 4 years. On the 3rd evening (May 8th) its the round that turns the leader board on its head, but is always enjoyed by participants and spectators alike – its the cycle challenge, so get your bicycles ready. The 4th evening (May 15th) is the relay challenge, this is where each team member walks/jogs a km each. The final evening (May 22nd) is back to where you started when all participants will start together.
Our winners last year were Moynard and the team members were, Declan Leahy, Jim Cummins, Carmel Alexander, Tom Alexander and Ray Power.
The entry fee is €10 for the five weeks, which includes a cuppa and a chat. So why not come along for a bit of enjoyment and support our 10th Birthday Burma Challenge.
