‘Athlete of the Year’
The 2014 ‘Athlete of the Year’ was announced at our presentation night just after Christmas in Moyne Community Hall and the award went to Jack Hickey. This was a great year for Jack in both Track & Field and Cross Country, he represented his Club, County and Munster with pride throughout the year. Jack’s first competition was the All Ireland “B” Cross Country in Dunboyne, Co. Meath in February where he won Silver finishing in 2nd place in the U13 race. It was then onto Track and Field in May where he excelled in the Counties in Templemore winning two U14 County Titles in both the 800mts and 1,500mts, on the same day he also finished 4th in both Long Jump and Shot. He then competed in the Munster Track & Field in Cork IT and finished 5th in the 1,500m and 7th in the 800mts. In the Munster “B” Track & Field U14 in Templemore in August he put in two great performances and went on to win two Munster Titles, the 800mts and Long Jump. Later in the year during October at the start of the Cross Country season in Turnpike he won the County Title in the U14 race and was the First Club Team. Later that month in Moyglass in the U15 race he finished second winning Silver medal and winning Second Club Team. He then went on to the Munster U14 where he finished 7th overall and 3rd Tipperary team. The County Cross Country Relays were held in Thurles and Jack ran in the U14 race which finished in 3rd place winning Bronze. Jack’s final event of the year on November 23rd was the All Ireland Cross Country which were held in Dundalk IT where he was a member of the Munster team that finished in 2nd position overall. Jack had a very busy and successful year and all his hard work and dedication paid off. Jack was deservedly presented with the Perpetual Shield by Club Chairman Paddy Doyle making him Moyne AC “Athlete of the Year 2014’.
‘Most Improved Athlete of the Year’
The 2014 ‘Most Improved Athlete of the Year’ was also presented at the Presentation Night and the worthy recipient was Katie Bergin. Katie’s season began with the Munster Indoor Championships in Nenagh in February where she finished 10th in the U14 High Jump and 13th in the Long Jump. Her next event, also in February, was the U13 County Indoor Championships in Nenagh where Katie finished 2nd in the Long Jump, 3rd in the 60mts, 6th in the High Jump and 7th in the 600mts. Templemore held the County Track and Field in May where Katie finished 2nd in the U13 Long Jump, 3rd in the 80mts and 5th in the High Jump. In the Munster Track and Field in Ennis she finished 9th in the U13 High Jump and 10th in the Long Jump. In the Munster “B” Track and Field in Templemore during August Katie finished 2nd in the U13 Long Jump. The Cross County season started in October in the Turnpike in early October and Katie finished 3rd in the U13 and a few weeks later had a great race in Moyglass winning the U14 County Title. Katie finished off her season in the Muster U13 “B” Cross Country race in Watergrasshill Co Cork finishing in 9th position overall. Katie had a great year in both Track and Field and Cross Country and competed admirably with the best athletes in Ireland and therefore deservedly Katie was presented with the 2014 ‘Most Improve Athlete of the Year’ by Club Chairman Paddy Doyle.
