Just .05cm separated Stephen Flanagan from winning a national indoor high jump medal on Sunday in Athlone when competing at the All Ireland Masters Indoor Championships.  In a field of six athletes the pressure was always going to be there to medal but fair play to Stephen who put it up to the rest of the field during the competition.  He cleared 1.45 and 1.50 on the first attempt, 1.55 on his second attempt and when the chips were down 1.60 on the third attempt.  He missed his three attempts at 1.65 which would have seen him medal as this was the height that won the bronze medal.  Stephen had to settle for fourth this time around.  Such was the competitive nature of the event that Stephen won the competition last year jumping 1.60 while this year gold was won with a leap of 1.90.  Well done Stephen on a great competition.
