Munster U/23 Track & Field Champion
Katie Bergin made the journey to MTU Cork on Sunday last and in ideal weather conditions produced a stunning performance to claim the Munster U/23 200mts title in a new personal best time of 24.90 secs, the first time to go under the 25 sec barrier and the first club athlete to achieve this feat in the history of the club. Running an exceptional race and an equally efficient bend she powered away from the opposition to claim the title. This followed on from her second place in the 100mts (12.47) where she left the winner of that race in her wake in the 200mts. The time for the 200mts now puts Katie in amongst the top 12 in the Country over that distance. Congratulations Katie, all the hard work is paying off.
Munster Pentathlon Championships
On Saturday, young Gerard Delaney, competed in the pentathlon championship which consists of five competitions, 60mts, Long Jump, Shot, High Jump and 600mts. This was Gerard’s first ever attempt at this type of competition and he gave it his all in all five competitions to finish eight overall with a total of 728pts. His best competition came in the High Jump where he claimed second spot with a leap of 1.24mts, he threw 6.50mts in the Shot to finish fourth, ran 12.89secs in the 60mts for fifth place, jumped 3.72mts in the Long Jump to claim the sixth spot and ran 2.35.84 in the 600mts to finish ninth. This type of competition shows an athlete’s versatility and Gerard certainly has that and we congratulate him on his performance on Saturday.
