County Juvenile Track and Field Championships

Our juvenile athletes participated in the County Track and Field championships in Templemore on Saturday and Sunday May 12th and 13th and all of these athletes did the club proud where a total of 20 individual medals  and 2 sets of relay medals were won and this could have been even more with such stiff competition over the two days.

U/13 –U/19

These athletes put wonderful performances on Saturday. Emerging as gold medal winners were Emma Gleeson in the high jump (1.35), Gavin Ryan in the 800m (2.25.95) and Seán Burke in the javelin (27.99). Silver medal winners were Mary Cussen in the 800m (2.46.48), Aaron McLaughlin in the walk, Aisling Dywer in the 100m (14.40), Dylan McLaughlin in the 1500m (4.41.58) and Seán Burke in the shot put (8.98). Louise Hickey won bronze medals in 75H (16.07) and 200m (31.57). Other bronze medal winners were Shannon Boland in the 400m (81.28), Katie Bergin in the 200m (28.80), Dylan McLaughlin in the 800m (2.21.39) and the U/15 Boys relay team of Tomás Cussen, Aaron McLaughlin, Conor Gleeson and Jake Bowe. Well done to the above athletes on their medal winning performances but we also had Cathal Guilfoyle and Jack Hickey in action and despite their good performances unfortunately they did not make it to the podium on the day but nonetheless we are proud of their efforts.

U/9- U/12

Sunday saw our younger juvenile athletes in action in very favourable weather conditions. Billy Gleeson put in wonderful performances to win gold in the 60m and silver in the 600m. Maria Doyle was another gold medal winner in the turbo javelin. Our silver medal winners were Olive Spillane Leane in the long jump, Niamh Gleeson in the 60m, Saoirse Doran in the 600m and the U/9 girls relay team of Olive Spillane Leane, Heidi Maher, Maria Doyle and Niamh Gleeson. Jack Flanagan won a bronze medal in the 600m. There were many other athletes who put in terrific performances and some day they will have their turn on the podium. They were: Molly Jones, Arlene Flanagan, Cáit Bergin Doherty, Saoirse Deegan, David Nolan, Noah Murphy, Jack Guilfoyle, Billy Flanagan, Reiltín Morrissey, Ruth Phelan, Rogan Lyons, Paddy Ely, Ellen Nolan, Isabella Lyons, Emma Delaney, Kate Delaney, Mary Kate Ely, Sarah McGinley, Seán Boland, Jack Reddan, Cara Delaney, Frank Doyle, Adam Phelan, John Delaney and Liam Ryan. Well done to all athletes on participating in stiff competition and many thanks to all parents/guardians for their enthusiasm and support over both days.

 

 

Annerville 10k

The Annerville 10k saw of our athletes compete in great running conditions. Our first competitor over the line was Brian Carroll in a time of 40.11 minutes. Sharon Cantwell and Sharon Kiely both had strong finishes to run 48:01 and 48:27 respectively.

 

 

 

 

Upcoming fixtures

County Juvenile ‘B’ Championships, Moyne Athletic Club Sportsfield

Moyne Athletic Club will host the County Juvenile ‘B’ Championships in the Sportsfield on the 20th of May. This is an opportunity for athletes who have competed in last week’s County Juvenile Track and Field Championship and did not medal. The event starts at 11am and all help is welcome on the day.

 

Burma Challenge

The second round of the Burma Challenge will be take place this week. On Wednesday, the Team Mile Challenge will take place on the track. Teams can be found on the website.

Following this event we have the 5k Handicap night (week 3), the 5k relay event (week 4) and finale (week 5).  Entry to the complete event is €10 and any further information can be got by contacting John on 086-8403515.  Why not come along and enjoy the event with tea and refreshments served to all each night.

 

Mini Marathon

Our annual mini-marathon will take place on Monday 4th June commencing at 12 noon from the Sportsfield.  We will be hosting a 10k Run and a 5k Walk with entries on the day of the event.  Timing will be provided for the 10k and all entrants will receive a medallion on finishing.  The first three ladies and men in the 10k will receive prizes with an additional prize for new course records.  Refreshments will be served to all afterwards.
