2021 County Novice Cross Country Championships

Sharon Cantwell County Novice Champion/Ladies Team County Novice Champions

Newport was the venue for the first championship race of the season and Moyne AC had a great showing of athletes on show!

The ladies were the first away and the pace was set early on with Lisa Quinlan who is back on the running scene after a few years off showed her talent by ensuring it was an honest pace and opened a convincing lead early on. Sharon Cantwell bided her time and worked through the field and after 2.5km had closed the gap and took the lead heading into the final lap of the 4k course. She worked all the way to the finish and thankfully came away a convincing winner and becoming Tipperary’s Novice A County Champion of 2021. Great to see Sharon back up her fine road performance of the season. Next home for Moyne was long time leader Lisa who ran a brilliant race and was deservedly took the bronze! Close on her tails was Sinead Tynan in 4^th. These 3 ladies were convincing winners of the team title on the day on a score of 8 points! Next home for Moyne was Aisling Maher in 5^th, Kate Harrison in 12^th, Edel Delaney in 14^th and Bernadette Spillane 17^th. All these girls gave a fine performance and did the club proud on the day! Congratulations to them all and we look forward to seeing you all out again this season.

The might of 49 men faced the starter in the Novice Men’s event over 6k where we had great representation from the men and first home for the club was Jody Sweeney who ran very strongly to hold position to finish in the top 10. Hot on his heels was Richie Daly in 14^th. Next home was John Renehan in 25^th and Brian Carroll in 27^th. Next we had Brendan Delaney in 36^th following him was Pierce Harte in 41^st his first run for the club as a Senior! Well done to all the men who gave a great account of themselves who finished in 4^th place in the team event!

Congratulations to all the athletes for the commitment on Sunday and with the County “B” not far off, these performances will give them a boost ahead of this championship.  Moyne Abú!
